Tiny Habits for Joy!

Few things in life offer a proven path to sustained joy. Tiny Habits® is a globally proven Behavior Design method. Once you understand it, you can design systems and strategies for moving successfully forward toward nearly any personal aspiration for good.

I call it ‘The Science of Love,’ because it helps you design systems anchored in understanding how human behavior works. Because we are a species with ‘Love’ as our primary operating system, it’s the tiniest decisions that accumulate and have the greatest impact.

Tiny Habits & Behavior Design for Fundraising

Here are some Tiny Habits fundraising tips to get you started on the road to sustainable fundraising success:

1. Keep it Tiny! Always choose small objectives: Instead of trying to raise a large sum of money as fast as possible, try telling your team to raise $100, celebrate every success and then increase the objective as the donations come in.

2. Don’t make The Big Mistake: Thinking, “If people care, they will give.” We all know what it’s like to want to do something and then forget all about it when life get’s complicated or too busy. The Science of Behavior Design has proven that the desired behavior will not occur without a prompt. You as the fundraiser are the ‘Prompt!’ Make the call, send the text, send the DM, knock on that door (unless there’s a ‘no soliciting’ sign), and systematically create Tiny Habits to remind yourself why you do what you do for the times when motivation is low and discouragement or frustration show up.

2. Keep it Simple! What are some ways you cane make the donation process as simple as possible for donors? Perhaps offering a text-to-donate feature. Be sure online donations are easy to process. Try a QR code on your social media profiles.

3. Share the Love! Donations increase when others see that they are joining with a community of people with shared values and aspirations. Let them know how many people have already donated and how they can join the tribe!

4. Share Inspiring Stories. Let people know through real-life stories of people, communities and causes that are helped by the gifts and donations. Be sure to feature specific outreaches, projects and initiatives that help donors to clearly see that their gifts are making a difference.

5. Create a Community of Celebration and Appreciation! Be sure not only to thank donors for their contributions, but invite them into the conversations and the community! Check in regularly to let them know that you appreciate them, and keep it personal, warm and authentic. This can encourage donors to continue to support the causes, programs and outreaches that they care about the most.

By starting with and continually Tiny Habits, making the desired behaviors as easy as possible, and celebrating every success, no matter how tiny, you can achieve and sustain success with your fundraising objectives and aspirations!
